The Heir and The Spare (a.k.a. I declare my love for Prince Harry)

Let’s take a minute to be real here. Prince William okay. I mean, he’s got that whole first-in-line-for-the-throne thing going on. He’s got a gorgeous wife and a couple of cute kids. And then there’s that whole saving lives as an air ambulance pilot thing. That’s fine and all.

But Prince Harry? Well done, Britain. Well-freaking-done.

Which brings me to The Heir and the Spare by Emily Albright–a sweet love story about an American college student who attends Oxford and meets her very own Prince Harry “royal spare.” Everywhere I turn, I seem to find another fabulous review of this book, so I conned the author, Emily Albright, into sharing a little more about her book, including her dream cast. Without further ado, here’s Emily!

COVER (1)Family can be complicated. Especially when skeletons from the past pop up unexpectedly. For American Evie Gray, finding out her deceased mother had a secret identity, and not one of the caped crusader variety, was quite the surprise. Evie’s mom had a secret life before she was even born, one that involved tiaras.

In this modern day fairytale, Evie is on a path to figure out who her mom really was, while discovering for herself what the future will hold. Charged with her late mother’s letters, Evie embarks on a quest into her past. The first item on the list is to attend Oxford, her mom’s alma mater. There, Evie stumbles upon a real life prince charming, Edmund Stuart the second Prince of England, who is all too happy to be the counterpart to her damsel in distress.

Evie can’t resist her growing attraction to Edmund as they spend more time together trying to unravel the clues her mother left behind. But, when doubts arise as to whether or not Edmund could ever be with an untitled American, what really ends up unraveling is Evie’s heart. When Evie uncovers all the facts about her mom’s former life, she realizes her mom’s past can open doors she never dreamed possible, doors that can help her be with Edmund. But, with everything now unveiled, Evie starts to crack under the pressure of new family responsibilities and the realization that her perfect prince may want her for all the wrong reasons.

The Heir and the Spare Official Dream Cast

Eleanor Tomlinson would make a fabulous Evie. Add an American accent, a little length to her hair and more curl and she’d be perfect. Nearly exactly how I pictured Evie. evie

Dominic Sherwood is actually pretty close to the image I had of Edmund in my mind when I wrote The Heir and the Spare. Blue contacts to cover Dominic’s gorgeous eyes though. 🙂

Ahem. Unsolicited intrusion suggestion from Amanda:

I can easily see Hunter Parrish* playing Preston. At first I had trouble pinning an actor down for his character, but then this picture popped up and I knew I’d found my dream cast Preston.
(*Amanda has now Googled Hunter Parrish 3,492 times. Hello, smile.)

Keke Palmer is my Caroline. Give her a sleek bob and she’d be nearly spot on to what I pictured.

Elle Fanning would make a super sweet Suzy. She has such a charming innocent look to her that’s perfect. She is a bit too tall for Suze, but this is a dream cast, so it works. 😉

Emma Roberts would be a perfect Lady Jacqueline. She was another one that fell into place as soon as I saw this picture.
